Avail top-notch radiology and diagnostic imaging services at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy under the guidance of its experts, which also holds NABL & NABH accreditation. NCCT Left Shoulder provides detailed cross-sectional images of the bones and joints of the left shoulder. It is a non-contrast computer tomography (CT) of the shoulder structure that provides very detailed pictures of the bones, which aid physicians in diagnosing, planning care, and evaluating complex orthopaedic problems.
About NCCT Left Shoulder
It is performed without intravenous contrast material and X-ray material that is placed into a vein to examine the bones and joints of the left shoulder. It provides detailed visualization of the humeral head, glenoid, scapula, clavicle, and the bone surrounding the area to be scanned. It is especially useful in the evaluation of complex fractures, slight bone injury, congruity of joints, and other abnormalities. Additionally, NCCT scans may be used to obtain detailed bony information for the diagnosis and planning of treatment, and to assess for degenerative changes, bone fragments, and fracture displacement.
What is NCCT Left Shoulder?
Other terms for Non-Contrast Computed Tomography (NCCT) are no-contrast computed tomography. It does not require intravenous contrast and can produce detailed images of the left shoulder. It gives useful information for the doctor to evaluate the location, extent, general alignment, and associated bone abnormalities after fracturing or when the doctor suspects a fracture in the bone but is not able to evaluate the situation due to unclear results from imaging tests previously performed. Detailed bone evaluation may be warranted prior to surgery and after an accident, or an X-ray may suggest a complex fracture.
Common Reasons for NCCT Left Shoulder
Shoulder injury or trauma: Evaluation of suspected bone injuries following falls, accidents, or direct impact.
Suspected fracture: Assessment of fractures involving the humeral head, glenoid, scapula, or clavicle within the scanned area.
Shoulder dislocation: Examination of joint alignment and associated bony injuries.
Complex fractures: Detailed evaluation of fracture location, displacement, and bone fragments.
Degenerative joint changes: Assessment of bone spurs, joint surface irregularities, and other features of arthritis.
Preoperative planning: Detailed evaluation of shoulder bone anatomy before selected surgical procedures.
Post-traumatic assessment: Examination of bone alignment and healing-related changes when recommended by the treating doctor.
Suspected bony lesions: Further assessment of selected abnormalities identified on previous imaging.
Abnormal X-ray findings: Clarification of complex or uncertain bony findings on conventional radiographs.
Conditions Evaluated
Shoulder Dislocation and Joint Alignment
The exam can evaluate the proper fitting of the shoulder joint and whether any type of bony damage is associated with it. It could assist in identifying any fragments or defects of the bones involved in a dislocation.
Complex and Displaced Fractures
Physicians can obtain a very detailed image of a complex fracture with CT, which enables them to see how many and exactly where the fracture fragments are, and how they relate to one another. This can be used to help decide on the treatment course.
Post-Traumatic Bone Changes
The examination may be used to help evaluate the alignment of the bones, changes that occur during healing of a fracture, and certain complications of treatment of any shoulder trauma.
Preoperative Bony Assessment
Sufficient for the surgeon to have a good understanding of the bony anatomy of the left shoulder before certain procedures, especially if there is any bone fracture or other complex abnormalities involving the left shoulder’s joints.

Book Your NCCT Left Shoulder
If your physician has recommended an NCCT Left Shoulder, you may have the chance to come in for your exam at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy. If you have your prescription, previous X-rays, CT or MRI reports, or other medical records, it would be helpful to provide them at the consultation. Notify the Radiology Staff if you are thinking of becoming pregnant or have any particular concerns before the exam.
Test information: Usually, no fasting is required.
Reporting: None
Usually, fasting is not required before the NCCT Left Shoulder scan.
Inform the healthcare team about any previous left shoulder injuries, fractures, dislocations, or surgeries.
Bring your prescription and previous X-rays, CT scans, MRI images, and reports, if available.
Inform the staff if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, as CT uses X-rays.
Tell the team about any significant medical conditions or difficulty keeping your left shoulder still.
Remove jewellery, watches, and other metal objects around the shoulder and upper chest before the scan.
Wear comfortable clothing without metal components near the area being examined. You may be asked to change into a gown if needed.
Follow the radiology team’s positioning instructions and remain still during image acquisition.
Inform the staff if you experience pain or discomfort while positioning your shoulder.
The radiology team reviews the referral, symptoms, medical history, and previous imaging, if available.
The patient is positioned on the CT table to obtain suitable images of the left shoulder.
The CT scanner acquires detailed cross-sectional images of the left shoulder bones and joint without injecting contrast material into a vein.
The images may include the humeral head, glenoid, scapula, clavicle, and other relevant bony structures within the scan area.
The patient must remain still during image acquisition to help produce clear images.
Appropriate radiation-safety procedures are followed throughout the examination.
A radiologist interprets the images to assess fractures, dislocations, joint alignment, post-traumatic changes, or other bony abnormalities.
