The NCCT Left Thigh / Femur delivers its services at Advanced Centre for Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging, an NABL and NABH-accredited centre for Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy. The special computed tomography (CT) scan used in the NCCT Left Thigh / Femur scan makes detailed cross-sectional images of the left femur and surrounding structures included in the scan. This makes it possible for doctors to see fractures, traumatic injuries, bone abnormalities, bone changes, and other issues in the thigh bone. A scan can be used to visualise the anatomy of the bones, fracture patterns, and bone alignment to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning, where clinically indicated.
About NCCT Left Thigh / Femur
NCCT Left Thigh / Femur is a radiological (X-ray) procedure that will be used to assess Abnormalities of the Femur (Thigh bone) from the hip joint to the knee joint on the left side. Uses computed tomography technology to demonstrate cross-sections and to describe the bones and patterns of selected abnormalities that cannot be well characterized with a typical X-ray. The exam might be ordered after an injury/accident, if a fracture is suspected and/or additional evaluation of a bone lesion is required. It may be used as an aid to diagnosis of fracture type, location, fracture size, and changes in bone alignment and specific changes to the femur. The scan is performed without IV contrast, so it plays a unique role in the assessment of bone anatomy and traumatic bony injuries.
What is NCCT Left Thigh / Femur?
No IV contrast is needed in this case; X-rays and computer processing are used rocessing to obtain detailed image cross-sections. For NCCT Left Thigh/Femur, the scan area refers to the left thigh/femur and the area that is scanned. It enables the radiologist to view/or review the bone cortex, bone internal architecture, alignment, and certain abnormalities found in the thigh area. The examination process will differ according to the patient's symptoms, clinical history, and the doctor's imaging requirements.
Common Reasons for NCCT Left Thigh / Femur
Bone Injury: Examination of bone injury following a fall or injuries in a car accident or any other trauma.
Evaluation of fracture pattern, displacement, and fragments - Complex Fractures.
Bone Abnormalities – further investigation of any abnormal signs or lesions of the femur.
Abnormal X-ray findings: Detailed evaluation is made if they are not listed in the X-ray.
Postoperative Assessment: To check for bone healing, alignment, or orthopedic hardware, among other things, as clinically warranted.
Preoperative Planning: Fine detailed images of the fracture for surgical planning.
Suspected Bone Fragments: Identification of bone fragments that are suspected as a result of injury.
Conditions Evaluated
Femur Fractures
NCCT may assist in determining fractures involving the left femur and give precise information about the location, extent, and displacement of fractures. This can be helpful in examining more complicated fractures.
Traumatic Bone Injuries
Recognizes any bone trauma resulting from a fall, accident, or direct impact to the thigh. It can show bone fragments and fracture lines which may not be apparent on a standard X-ray.
Bone and Structural Abnormalities
With CT imaging, specific abnormalities of the femur cortex, bone structure, and general bone can be detected. Depending on the investigatory results, further investigation might be required.
Bone Alignment and Deformities
Correctly taken CT images by NCCT will help to identify the alignment and shape of the left femur. This may be of assistance in the evaluation of traumatic deformities or to plan the corrective operation.
Bone Lesions
The scan may be used to help characterise chosen abnormalities of the bone or abnormalities of the cortex. If more evaluation is needed, MRI, lab tests, or other types of tests might be suggested.
Postoperative Bone Changes
If these were parts of the region of interest of the scanned post op findings, and if they will be useful, then NCCT would be beneficial as an assessment tool.
Fracture Displacement and Bone Fragments
Fine detail cross sections may be used to show the movement of fractured bone pieces away from each other when using indicators, and in the identification of the associated bone pieces, which will help plan the treatment.

Conclusion
Detailed imaging of the left femur (thigh bone) to evaluate a left femur fracture, traumatic injury, bone alignment, and selected left structural abnormalities. This examination is used at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy to aid in detailed assessment and treatment planning if the treating doctor recommends a non-contrast CT examination.
Test information: Fasting NOT needed
Reporting: Within 24 hours*
Usually, no fasting is required before the scan. You can follow your usual diet unless your doctor or the diagnostic centre provides different instructions.
Inform the medical team if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, as CT scans use X-rays.
Bring your doctor’s prescription, previous X-rays, CT or MRI scans, and other relevant medical reports for reference.
Inform the radiology team about any previous left thigh injuries, fractures, surgeries, bone disorders, or other relevant medical conditions.
Inform the staff if you have metal plates, screws, rods, or other orthopaedic implants in the left thigh or surrounding area.
Wear comfortable clothing and remove jewellery, belts, or other metal objects near the scanned area as instructed.
Tell the staff if you have severe thigh pain, swelling, difficulty moving your leg, or trouble lying comfortably during the examination.
Continue taking your prescribed medicines unless your doctor advises otherwise. No special medication is usually required for a non-contrast CT scan.
Follow the radiology team's instructions and remain as still as possible during the scan to help obtain clear images.
After the examination, you can generally resume your normal daily activities unless your treating doctor gives you different instructions.
