Book your NCCT ORBIT CORONAL at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, an NABL & NABH-accredited diagnostic centre with CT and Radiology services to visualize the eye sockets, bones of the eye socket, and structures surrounding it. It is a non-contrast CT scan to get detailed coronal images of the orbit's bone walls of the eye sockets along with its contents, optic canal, extraocular structures, as well as its relationship to the paranasal sinus regions in high resolution. It's beneficial for assessment of injuries & trauma to the orbits, or suspected fractures, foreign bodies, inflammatory variations, sinus-related orbital problems, and other eye abnormalities.
About NCCT Orbit Coronal
This is a computed tomography scan performed to offer coronal imaging of the orbits and adjacent anatomy. Coronal imaging offers unique information about the walls of the orbits, optic canals, adjacent sinuses, and relationship of the orbits to the rest of the anatomy. It is especially useful when there is trauma to the face or orbits, suspected fractures, foreign bodies, or other conditions.
What is NCCT Orbit Coronal?
NCCT Orbit Coronal is a type of scan performed without intravenous (IV) contrast. With CT imaging, coronal images are obtained in detail of the ring of bones (bone orbit), orbital walls, optic canal, nearby paranasal sinuses, and surrounding areas to detect the presence of fractures, abnormal bone, foreign bodies, and other changes.
Common Reasons for NCCT Orbit Coronal
Eye or Orbital Injury
This can be advised after trauma/injury around the eye to evaluate the orbit bones and soft tissues around the eye.
Suspected Orbital Fracture
It can identify fractures that involve the orbital floor, medial wall, lateral wall, or other parts of the eye socket bones.
Facial Trauma
It may be suggested after an accident, fall, sports injury, or other facial injury involving the orbital area.
Suspected Foreign Body
NCCT can help identify certain radiopaque foreign bodies within or around the orbit following an injury.
Eye Swelling or Pain
It could be performed to assess structural or inflammatory causes of otherwise unexplained swelling or pain surrounding the eye.
Double Vision
Imaging may be advised where diplopia occurs after trauma or if the abnormality of the orbital structure is suspected.
Sinus-Related Orbital Problems
Coronal NCCT Orbit evaluates the paranasal sinuses that are located adjacent to the orbit, which may be abnormal or extended into the orbit.
Optic Canal Evaluation
The optic canal may show detailed visualization of the optic canal in case of abnormality or traumatic circumstances in this area.
Conditions Evaluated
Orbital Fractures
NCCT provides detailed images of fractures involving the orbital floor, roof, medial wall, lateral wall, and other orbital bones.
Orbital Foreign Bodies
This test can be utilized for identification and localization of some foreign objects in the orbital region, namely radiopaque foreign bodies.
Orbital Bone Abnormalities
Structural abnormalities, deformities, or other changes involving the bones of the orbit can be assessed.
Optic Canal Abnormalities
The optic canal and its bony margins can be evaluated for fractures, narrowing, or other structural abnormalities.
Paranasal Sinus Abnormalities
The adjacent paranasal sinuses can be assessed for changes that may be related to orbital symptoms or complications.
Inflammatory Changes
CT may demonstrate structural changes associated with inflammatory or infectious processes involving the orbit and adjacent regions.
Post-Traumatic Changes
NCCT can help assess healing, alignment, and residual abnormalities following previous orbital or facial trauma.
Other Orbital Structural Conditions
This examination can also be used to assess other bone or structural abnormalities that involve the orbit and adjacent facial structures.

Test information: Usually, no fasting is required.
Reporting: Within 24 hours*
Usually, no fasting is required before an NCCT Orbit Coronal.
Inform the radiology team about any previous surgery, injury, fracture, or treatment involving the eyes, orbits, face, or head.
Inform the centre if you have any metallic implants, plates, screws, surgical clips, or other medical hardware in or around the head and facial region.
Tell the radiology team if there is a history of a metallic or other foreign body injury, particularly around the eyes.
Inform the radiology team about your current medicines and relevant medical conditions.
Tell the staff if you have significant eye pain, swelling, difficulty keeping the eyes or head still, or other symptoms affecting your ability to remain positioned.
Tell the radiology team if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy, as CT uses ionising radiation.
Bring previous CT scans, X-rays, MRI scans, ultrasound reports, or other relevant medical records if available.
Remove spectacles, contact-lens accessories if applicable, jewellery, hair accessories, and other unnecessary metallic objects from the head and face before the examination.
Wear comfortable clothing and follow the positioning instructions provided by the radiology team.
Keep the head and face as still as possible during scanning to reduce motion-related image degradation.
Follow any additional instructions provided by the radiology team based on your clinical condition.

The radiology team reviews the clinical history, symptoms, previous investigations, and indication for the NCCT Orbit Coronal.
The patient is positioned appropriately on the CT table with the head aligned according to the orbital imaging protocol.
A non-contrast CT examination is performed with thin-section imaging focused on the orbits and adjacent facial structures.
Coronal images are obtained to evaluate the orbital walls, orbital floor and roof, medial and lateral walls, optic canals, adjacent paranasal sinuses, and surrounding bony structures.
The examination can demonstrate orbital fractures, bone deformities, alignment abnormalities, radiopaque foreign bodies, and other structural abnormalities.
The optic canals and their bony margins are assessed for fractures, narrowing, or other visible abnormalities.
The adjacent paranasal sinuses may also be evaluated for abnormalities that could be associated with orbital symptoms or complications.
Findings related to trauma, inflammatory or infectious processes, and other structural abnormalities may be assessed within the imaged region.
Multiplanar reconstructions may be generated when required for detailed evaluation and localization of abnormalities.
No intravenous contrast material is used for a standard NCCT Orbit Coronal examination.
The patient should remain still during image acquisition to reduce motion-related image degradation.
CT uses ionising radiation, and the examination is performed using an appropriate imaging protocol with radiation-safety measures.
The acquired images are reviewed and interpreted by a qualified radiologist in correlation with the clinical information and available previous investigations.
