The NCCT Pelvis / Lower Abdomen at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy is an NABL & NABH-accredited diagnostic centre that is a radiology and diagnostic imaging centre. Non-Contrast Computed Tomography (NCCT), which acquires detailed cross-sectional images of the lower abdominal and pelvic area, can be used to assist the physician in assessing urinary stones, lower abdominal and pelvic pain, abdominal and pelvic deformity, and other disorders without using IV contrast material.
NCCT Pelvis / Lower Abdomen is a diagnostic imaging test that uses X-rays and a computer to produce detailed images of the structures in the lower abdomen/pelvis. The lack of routine use of intravenous contrast is very helpful in identifying many urinary stones and some calcifications, since this is not routinely used in NCCT.
The CT scanner takes X-rays at different angles as the scan proceeds, and the computer then combines these images to create detailed cross-sectional images. The exact amount of the scan will vary based on the doctor's request and the imaging protocol. It might be recommended to have a CT scan or other imaging tests to obtain more detailed information concerning the blood vessels, inflammation, masses, or other soft tissues.
NCCT can be employed in the routine work-up of most urinary stones. Having a scan of the anatomy involved can help to identify the number, size, and position of stones in the distal ureters or other urinary structures.
Coexisting dilatation of the urinary tract might be located along with urinary stones. The results can aid the physician in determining if a blockage may be causing the problem and if additional tests are needed.
Subsections of the small bowel and/or large bowel might be visible in the scan area. May help to diagnose some structural abnormalities, and some changes caused by inflammation or other factors; however, in some cases contrast-enhanced CT may be more appropriate in the bowel.
The general introduction to reproductive anatomy and the scanning area (where the reproductive organs are) is possible with NCCT. In other instances, such as problems with the soft parts of the body, like the gynecological organs, 2-D ultrasound or MRI might work better to assess the issue in detail.
Pelvic bones can be well seen, and if visible, bone lesions selected by this work, and fractures and other structural changes can be determined.
Calculus located within the pelvis (including urinary stones and other types of calcified structures) can be identified with NCCT. Their location and appearance can also help in determining the diagnosis of the lesion.
The scan may reveal any abnormal fluid accumulation or abnormalities in the tissues that surround pelvic organs. Other imaging tests may be needed to find out how serious it is or to see if there is any other cause for these tests.
Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy is an NABL & NABH Accredited Diagnostics Centre and services comprising: Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Pathology. It starts and ends with quality reporting, patient comfort, appropriate scanning procedures, and quality images for our scanning/diagnostic imaging services. The imaging team sticks to the examination procedure as per the guidelines to facilitate appropriate and clinically relevant diagnosis.
Please schedule an exam with Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy if you have an NCCT Pelvis / Lower Abdomen recommendation from your physician. Please provide a prescription, old CT/ultrasound reports, or medical/records/reports (if available). These records can assist the radiologist in making comparisons and determining change over time.
Test information: Usually, no fasting is required.
