Advanced Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging: Penile Colour Doppler Ultrasound Services in the field of Visit Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy with a NABL and NABH Accredited Diagnostic Centre. Colour Doppler is a non-invasive ultrasound exam that captures blood flow in blood vessels for evaluation of areas of blood flow abnormalities that have been selected for the exam. A penile Doppler test involves examining the blood flow to the penis and can be used to understand and explore erectile dysfunction and other conditions that affect blood flow to the penis.
Penile Colour Doppler Ultrasound, also known as Penile Doppler, is an imaging test that examines blood flow in the arteries and veins of the penis. Uses normal ultrasound with Doppler technology to display blood vessels and assesses the direction and velocity of blood flow. The exam could be suggested for any male who is having trouble getting and maintaining an erection, is suspected to have blood vessel issues or any other problems they may have with penile blood flow. When clinically indicated, the examination may be performed before and after medication is administered under medical supervision to induce an erection.
Colour Doppler enables a high-frequency sound wave to form pictures of structures inside the body and to measure the movement of blood through blood vessels. Colour coding is used to show direction and pattern of flow, and spectral Doppler can be used for other flow velocity measurements. On penile Doppler, the arteries of the penis and the venous blood flow are evaluated. The exam could be conducted before and after administering the patient a medication that can cause an erection if necessary for medical reasons. It is an examination not involving ionizing radiation. Where medication is required, the medical staff will inform them of the name of the medication and what to watch for when taking medication.
With the Penile Doppler, Doppler flow can be used to evaluate penile arterial blood supply. In some patients, alterations in arterial perfusion have an impact on sexual function.
It might help diagnose Doppler characteristics of poor venous occlusion, sometimes referred to as venous leak. Interpretation is dependent on the protocol for these examinations, and subsequent to any treatment which may be prescribed.
The examination may be able to give information about vascular factors that can cause erectile dysfunction as well. But erectile dysfunction can also be caused by hormonal, neurological, psychological, medication, or other factors, which Doppler ultrasound cannot determine.
Doppler recordings can help determine the direction and flow of blood in the arteries in the penis. Further clinical evaluation may be indicated if there is any abnormality.
If used, the exam can be a useful tool in evaluating selected abnormalities in blood flow after penile trauma.
If clinical indications warrant, the exam may be used on a case-by-case basis to monitor a few abnormalities which affect penile blood flow. Results are discussed along with symptoms, previous history, and other investigations.
A NABL & NABH Accredited Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy Diagnostic Centre, offering services in Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Pathology. We hope that you will feel comfortable, that the images for your patient are clear, and that the signal level will be sufficient to diagnose them. The examination is carried out following the protocol for clinically useful assessment.
Please contact Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy if you've been prescribed a Penile Colour Doppler Ultrasound. Bring prescription medication, previous relevant reports, and medical records, if available. Before the examination, tell the healthcare team of any medicines that you are currently taking and any medical conditions that you have that may be relevant.
