Fasting is not required for this examination unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Empty your bladder before the scan, as a transvaginal ultrasound is usually performed with an empty bladder for better image quality.
Wear loose and comfortable clothing for easy access during the examination.
Inform the doctor or sonologist if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant.
If you are menstruating, inform the imaging center before your appointment. The scan may still be performed depending on the clinical indication.
Inform your doctor if you have any active vaginal infection, severe pelvic pain, or have recently undergone pelvic surgery.
A protective sterile cover will be placed over the ultrasound probe before the examination.
Arrive at the imaging center at least 20–30 minutes before your scheduled appointment.
Follow all instructions provided by the sonologist during the examination to ensure accurate imaging.

The sonologist will review your medical history, symptoms, and previous imaging reports before beginning the examination.
You will be asked to empty your bladder and change into an examination gown if required.
You will lie comfortably on the examination table with your knees bent and feet positioned appropriately for the scan.
A thin transvaginal ultrasound probe, covered with a sterile protective sheath and lubricating gel, will be gently inserted into the vagina.
The probe will be carefully moved to obtain detailed images of the uterus, cervix, endometrium, ovaries, adnexal regions, and surrounding pelvic structures.
If clinically indicated, Colour Doppler imaging may be performed to assess blood flow to the uterus or ovaries.
The sonologist will capture multiple images and measurements for diagnostic evaluation.
The examination is generally well tolerated and usually causes only mild pressure or slight discomfort.
The scan typically takes 15–20 minutes, depending on the clinical indication.
After the examination, you can resume your normal daily activities immediately. The images will be reviewed by a radiologist, and the report is generally available within 1 hour.
