Drink 4–6 glasses (approximately 750–1000 mL) of water about 45–60 minutes before your appointment and do not urinate until the scan is completed.
Fasting is not required unless specifically instructed by your doctor.
Continue taking your regular medications unless advised otherwise.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing to allow easy access to the lower abdomen.
Inform your doctor or sonologist if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant.

The sonologist will review your medical history, symptoms, and previous imaging or laboratory reports before beginning the examination.
You will be asked to lie comfortably on the examination table with a comfortably full bladder.
A warm, water-based ultrasound gel will be applied to the lower abdomen.
The sonologist will gently move the ultrasound transducer over the lower abdomen to obtain real-time images of the pelvic organs.
Depending on your gender and clinical indication, the scan may evaluate the urinary bladder, kidneys, uterus, ovaries, adnexal regions, prostate gland, and other pelvic structures.
The examination helps identify conditions such as bladder or kidney stones, urinary retention, ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, enlarged prostate (BPH), pelvic masses, fluid collections, and other lower abdominal abnormalities.
You may be asked to hold your breath briefly or change your position during the examination to improve image quality.
