Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy is an NABL & NABH accredited diagnostic center with the latest & advanced diagnostic equipment facilities, which is also equipped with Colour Doppler Spleno Ultrasound. Colour Doppler is a non-invasive ultrasound procedure that is utilized to determine blood flow through vessels and to evaluate selected vascular abnormalities. A spleno-portal Doppler will enable the doctor to visualize the portal venous system and splenic vessels, assess or monitor flow and come up with any abnormal findings they have that would warrant further investigation.
Colour Doppler Spleno-Portal Ultrasound is an imaging test to help determine the flow of blood through the portal venous system and splenic vessels. It generates images of vessels using traditional ultrasound and Doppler technology, and it also records the direction, flow pattern, and velocity of blood flow. They recommend using it in cases where it is suspected that a person may have portal hypertension, liver disease, splenomegaly, or some other disorder of venous circulation in the abdomen. It can be helpful in assessing the portal vein and splenic vein and their vascular structures as per protocol.
Colour Doppler produces the sound waves needed at a high frequency to create a picture of the tissues in the body and allows for improved visualization of blood flow within vessels. Colour coding can help provide black-and-white information about the direction of blood flow and what the blood flow pattern may look like; adding on to the colour coding with spectral Doppler information provides more measurements of what the blood flow velocity may be. A spleno-portal study is a test that uses ultrasound to examine the portal venous system and veins that go to the spleen. During the examination, there is an assessment of the vessel appearance, direction of blood flow, and characteristics of the blood flow, which may help to identify selected vascular abnormalities.
Colour Doppler can be used to assess blood flow through the portal veins and may show findings that may be related to portal hypertension. Diagnosis is carried out by examining the clinical findings and conducting suitable examinations.
The exam may be useful to identify whether there is blood clotting in the portal vein by assessing the blood flow and the condition of the veins. Depending on the outcome of these evaluations, other assessments may be needed.
Doppler ultrasound of splenic vein blood flow is used to evaluate blood flow and may be helpful in the diagnosis of certain abnormalities in venous blood flow.
During the exam, it assesses the flow of the blood and the shape of the portal vein. A change in the flow may be associated with disease of the liver and/or the blood vessels.
Inspection can provide some information about portal venous circulation in chronic liver disease and can help with identification of some of the selected vascular complications.
Depending on the examination result, other selected abnormalities of the portal venous system and splenic vessels can be reviewed using Colour Doppler.
Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy is a recognised Diagnostic Centre and also a NABL & NABH Certified Medical Laboratory that has the capabilities to offer Radiology, Nuclear Medicine & Pathology Services. We have a diagnostic imaging team focused on: Using the appropriate procedure; producing a quality image; keeping our patients comfortable; and providing reports. The imaging team's education and training are planned and fulfilled to meet the requirements of the study in order to obtain clinically valid results.
If Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy has recommended the Colour Doppler Spleno-Portal examination, contact them for more information. Provide prescription, previous ultrasound and Doppler reports, and medical records (if available) to ensure the proper examination procedure is used.
Test information: Fasting is required for 6–8 hours before the examination.
