Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy offers CT-guided FNAC Consumables that are dedicated medical devices employed during the process of fine-needle aspiration that is guided by a CT scan. We have a well-established NABL & NABH certified diagnostic lab with state-of-the-art facilities to provide advanced Radiology & diagnostic imaging facilities, with simultaneous provision of procedure specific consumables for sampling various tissues.
About CT Guided FNAC Consumables
CT Guided FNAC Consumables will include all the sterile kits and accessories necessary for fine needle aspiration of the desired lesion/abnormal area of interest. They provide assistance to the radiologist who is operating the procedure under CT control, whilst maintaining proper sterile conditions. The need for consumable requirements may vary depending on the location of the lesion, sampling method, level of the needle and clinical requirements of the patient.
What Are CT-Guided FNAC Consumables?
CT-guided FNAC consumables are special medical supplies that are used during computed tomography (CT) guided fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC). The radiologist uses the aid of CT images to localize the area to be targeted and accurately insert the thin needle into the area and extract cells or a small amount of tissue and cells from the targeted area, for cytological examination. They might include fine aspiration needles/syringes, sterile gloves, drapes, preparation materials for skin, local anaesthetic (if required) or specimen slide/container, and dressings, among other consumables. The exact supplies used are related to biopsy site, sampling technique, and clinical requirements.
Common Reasons for CT-Guided FNAC
Suspected tumours: For diagnosis – to decide if the tumour is benign or malignant.
When there are lesions or masses in the lungs or chest: To obtain cells from particular areas of lesions or masses.
Deep-seated abnormalities: To help in taking samples of lesions, which are not easily reached by palpation or other means of guidance.
Previous lesions identified: To get more cells if additional diagnostic work is required.
Conditions Evaluated
Benign and Malignant Lesions
Use of FNA samples will aid the cytologist in assessing the cytological features of the cells and look for the cells that could represent benign or malignant processes.
Lung and Chest Abnormalities
Cytological examination can be done on isolated nodules, masses, or any lesion detected in the chest with the help of CT-guided FNAC for cellular material.
Lymph Node Abnormalities
This can be done to assist with taking a sample from enlarged or suspicious lymph nodes for testing.
Deep-Seated Masses
CT guidance is needed to assist the radiologist, and also to direct the fine needle to the lesions selected in the organ so that the cells can be sampled.
Inflammatory and Infective Changes
When clinically indicated as an aid to investigation of inflammatory/infective disease, aspirated material can be analysed.
Why Choose Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy?
Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy is an NABL & NABH Accredited Diagnostic Centre Staffed with top-notch Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Pathology services. The use of modern imaging technology, specialist skills, well-established procedures, and a patient-centred approach supports our image-guided procedures. Test information: Fasting for 4–6 hours.
Reporting: Within 24 hours*
Follow the 4–6 hours of fasting instructions provided by the diagnostic centre before the associated CT-guided FNAC procedure.
Confirm with the radiology team whether plain water is permitted during the fasting period.
Inform your doctor and radiology team about any ongoing medications, especially blood thinners or medicines that affect blood clotting. Do not stop any prescribed medication without medical advice.
Inform the team about any known allergies, bleeding disorders, or previous reactions to medicines or contrast agents.
Carry your doctor's prescription, previous CT, MRI, or ultrasound reports, and relevant medical records.
Follow the radiology team's instructions regarding the biopsy site and procedure-specific preparation.
The consumables required may vary depending on the lesion's location, sampling technique, needle type, and clinical requirements.
The radiology team will verify your details, review your medical history and previous imaging reports, and confirm the target area for FNAC.
You will be positioned on the CT table according to the location of the lesion being examined.
Initial CT images will be obtained to identify the target area and plan the safest route for needle insertion.
The skin over the sampling site will be cleaned with an antiseptic solution. Sterile gloves and drapes will be used to maintain appropriate sterile conditions.
Local anaesthesia may be administered if required, depending on the sampling site and clinical assessment.
Under CT guidance, the radiologist will carefully insert a fine aspiration needle into the targeted lesion and collect the required cellular material.
The aspirated material will be transferred onto suitable slides or into an appropriate specimen container for cytological examination.
A sterile dressing may be applied to the sampling site, and you will be monitored according to the clinical requirements.
