Request a 72-hour Holter Monitoring appointment at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, an NABL & NABH certified center that is a leader in diagnostic and cardiac monitoring services. This non-invasive test can monitor the heart's electrical activity for 72 hours, helping doctors figure out what they're looking for if there are irregular heart rhythms and figuring out what symptoms are and may not be seen on a normal ECG.
About Holter Monitoring – 72 Hours
Holter Monitor test is a 72-hour ambulatory electrocardiogram (ECG), which is used to record a person's heart electrical activity for 3 days. Records are gathered by attaching a small, portable recorder to electrodes that are placed all over the chest, and it can then be used to record the heart rhythm during normal, daily activities. Due to the prolonged monitoring period, a greater number of time points are generated compared with a "standard" 24-hour Holter recording. It can aid in the detection of irregular heartbeat rhythms that may occur for only a brief period and correlate symptoms like palpitations, dizziness, or fainting with the action of the heart.
What Is a 72-Hour Holter Monitor?
A 72 Hour Holter Monitor is a portable heart monitor that tracks the heart's electrical activity over three days. The small, sticky patches of cloth are called electrodes; they're placed on the chest and carry the waves of the ECG to be recorded by the machine, which stores the waves for analysis. Use of a Holter monitor is not the same as getting a standard electrocardiogram (ECG) because a patient's normal daily activities are what a Holter monitor will monitor the heart over a longer period of time. These results obtained on the data collected are analyzed by a trained healthcare professional to identify a problem with the heartbeat and other results.
Common Reasons for 72-Hour Holter Monitoring
Dizziness or lightheadedness: To find out if they are due to abnormal heart rhythms.
Cardiovascular evaluation: To determine whether there is a possible cardiac rhythm issue as a cause for the syncope.
Irregular heartbeat: To detect irregular heartbeats that are not detected in a regular electrocardiogram (ECG).
Episodes of rapid or slow heartbeat that don't go away: To find out if the heart rate changes over a long period of time.
To test and follow-up heart beat patterns and how it responds to the treatment/pulse rhythm disorders.
Postcardiac treatment: When a doctor recommends certain cardiac treatment or procedures, monitoring a rhythm afterwards may be recommended.
Conditions Evaluated
Atrial Fibrillation
With Holter monitoring, it can also identify if you have episodes of irregular heart rhythm time and time again.
Bradycardia
The recording evaluates the duration and pattern of a slow heart rate and also identifies it.
Tachycardia
The test can detect episodes of an abnormally fast heart rate and help evaluate their frequency and duration.
Premature Heartbeats
Holter monitoring can identify premature atrial or ventricular beats and assess how frequently they occur.
Heart Rhythm Pauses
By monitoring the heartbeat over the long recording period, Holter monitoring can identify pauses in the heart rhythm and help determine whether they coincide with symptoms such as dizziness or fainting.
Intermittent Arrhythmias
Some heart rhythm disorders may only occur infrequently during a routine ECG. Longer monitoring periods – 72 hours – will give more opportunities for recording these episodes.
Why Choose Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy?
Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy is a highly advanced diagnostic centre affiliated with NABL & NABH Accredited Diagnostic Centre, and equipped with top-notch technology, skilled experts, and compassion. Cardiac monitoring is intended to accurately register the activity of the heart and precisely analyse its rhythm, so as to understand how the heart works and how best to treat its activity if it experiences abnormalities.
Book Your 72-Hour Holter Monitoring.
Consult with your doctor about the necessity of 72-hour (24-hour x 3) Holter monitoring to schedule an appointment and to find out where the tests are available. If available, add your medication, previous ECG reports, previous cardiac investigation test results,s and/or medical records.
Test information: Fasting NOT needed
Reporting: Within 24 hours*
No fasting is required before the test.
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the chest area for electrode placement.
Take your regular medicines as prescribed unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Inform the healthcare team about any skin allergies, sensitivity to adhesive patches, or existing skin conditions on the chest.
Carry your prescription, previous ECG reports, cardiac investigation results, and relevant medical records.
Bathe or shower before the monitor is attached, as you may be instructed not to get the recording device or electrodes wet during monitoring.
Follow the instructions provided by the technician on how to care for the monitor and record symptoms and daily activities during the 72 hours.
The technician explains the monitoring process and prepares the chest area for electrode placement.
Small adhesive electrodes are attached to specific areas of the chest and connected to a portable Holter recording device.
The device continuously records the heart's electrical activity for 72 hours while the patient follows their usual daily routine.
The patient is advised to note any symptoms, such as palpitations, dizziness, chest discomfort, or faintness, along with the time they occur.
The monitor and electrodes should be kept dry and handled according to the technician's instructions. The patient should avoid activities that may loosen or disconnect the electrodes.
After 72 hours, the patient returns to the centre for removal of the device and electrodes.
The recorded data is transferred for analysis by a qualified healthcare professional, who evaluates heart rate patterns and any abnormal rhythms.
