Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, under the accreditation of NABL & NABH, offers cutting-edge (high-tech) facilities & services in the radiology & diagnostic imaging field. This test incorporates the mother's obstetric (uterine) ultrasound exam, a Doppler study, and the fetal biophysical exam to monitor the baby's growth-related parameters, blood flow, movements, and overall well-being in the uterus during pregnancy. It contains important details that a doctor uses to track the pregnancy and to assess further treatment.
It is a pregnancy test used to find out the gestating baby's health condition by applying Ultrasound. Clinically indicated, and the biophysical profile, when indicated, assesses selected fetal activities and amniotic fluid volume, while the Doppler ultrasound will be performed to assess blood flow in specific blood vessels of the mother or fetus. The exam may be indicated if the pregnancy is at high risk or if the mother has medical conditions, if she feels the baby is growing abnormally, has a decreased level of fetal activity, or if other factors may suggest a need to monitor more carefully. This will vary, depending on the gestation period and a doctor's advice.
Obstetric Doppler ultrasound measures the flow of blood in some of the blood vessels, such as the umbilical artery, and in other blood vessels (if needed) of the mother and fetus. Assists the physician in checking for the circulation between the placenta and baby. Fetal surveillance using the biophysical profile refers to observation of how the baby is using its bloodstream, breathing movements, gross body movements, muscle tone, and the amount of amniotic fluid. Depending on the ordered procedure, a non-stress fetal heart rate test (NST) might also be done. The exam does NOT involve any ionizing radiation or invasive procedures. They give the doctor a guide to aid him in evaluating the health of the baby, as well as information about his mother's medical history, when the baby is anticipated to be born, and other information about the case.
Biophysical profile is used, based on certain baby movements and the analysis of amniotic fluid, for assessing the baby's health.
The Doppler measurement of the umbilical artery helps in assessing the umbilical artery-placental fetal circulation. If abnormal flow patterns are observed, then more attention needs to be paid to that pattern, or further evaluation is needed.
Information about circulation in selected vessels that can relate to placental function can be obtained from Doppler ultrasound.
An estimate is made of amniotic fluid volume, as part of the biophysical profile. The treating obstetrician may need to conduct further testing if the fluid levels are abnormal.
The biophysical profile assesses gross fetal body movements, breathing, and fetal muscle tone using ultrasound.
It is important to allow for parental concerns that imply fetal surveillance will be supported by the parental indication of the exam. In concluding the results, any data from the obstetrician or pertinent to the case must be taken into account.
Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy is an NABL & NABH Accredited Diagnostic Centre that serves Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and Pathology tests. Our diagnostic imaging practice involves using the correct imaging technique, using the proper equipment to follow the correct steps to acquire a diagnostic image, comforting our patients, and reporting information. The imaging team will conduct imaging studies as directed by study requirements to accomplish clinically relevant imaging assessment.
For those who were suggested by their doctor that they should use the Obstetric Doppler with Biophysical Profile, please make a booking with Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy. Bring your prescription, past pregnancy ultrasound reports, and any relevant medical records, if available, to ensure the right assessment is made.
