Book your NCCT Dorsal Spine test at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, an NABL & NABH accredited diagnostics centre for the detailed assessment of the thoracic & Dorsal spine and surrounding bone structures. This scan, also called a non-contrast CT scan, allows detailed, cross-sectional images of the facet joints, vertebral arches, and other components of the back area. It is useful for injuries occurring in the spine, fractures, and abnormalities in the vertebrae. We provide advanced imaging technology with safety measures, expert radiologists, and a patient-centred approach.
About NCCT Dorsal Spine
For detailed images of the thoracic region of the spine, an advanced computed tomography scan is used, called NCCT Dorsal Spine. The thorax, between your neck and your lower back, is known as the thoracic spine or dorsal spine. The examination provides a visualisation of all the vertebral bodies with the posterior elements, all facet joints, the spinal canal, and all bone structures. Advantageously, it is useful if an injury to the spine is suspected or if an abnormality is suspected.
What is NCCT Dorsal Spine?
The CT technology, which uses X-rays, has the unique capability of producing cross sections of the thoracic spine without intravenous contrast agents, which is why NCCT Dorsal Spine benefits from this. A regular X-ray may not provide as detailed images of complicated spinal architecture and bone structures as CT can. It can be used to determine fractures, spine alignment, and different sorts of abnormal bony structures in the back.
Common Reasons for NCCT Dorsal Spine
Dorsal Spine Injury
CT can help in the evaluation of thoracic vertebrae for fractures, displacement, and other traumatic changes.
Suspected Vertebral Fracture
NCCT provides detailed images of the dorsal vertebrae and can be useful in identifying fractures, including subtle or complex bone fractures.
Degenerative Spinal Changes
CT may be useful to show the bony changes present in degenerative diseases that involve the thoracic spine.
Follow-Up After Injury or Surgery
NCCT may be used to evaluate healing, alignment, or other bony changes following treatment or surgery involving the dorsal spine.
Conditions Evaluated
Dorsal Spine Fractures
NCCT can visualize fractures of the thoracic vertebrae - traumatic and compression fractures.
Vertebral Abnormalities
The examination may be useful in distinguishing structural abnormalities that involve the dorsal vertebrae and their associated bony parts.
Degenerative Changes
CT imaging can provide evidence for degenerative changes of the bone, osteophytes, changes of the facet joints, and much more of the anatomy of the thoracic spine.
Spinal Alignment Abnormalities
The dorsal vertebral alignment can be assessed with NCCT, and it can reveal normal or abnormal positions of displaced vertebrae after trauma or other conditions.
Facet Joint Abnormalities
Degradation and trauma of the facet joints, as well as structural conditions of these joint areas, can be evaluated.
Bone Lesions
NCCT may help detect certain focal bone lesions, abnormal bone growth, or other structural changes involving the thoracic vertebrae.
Traumatic Changes
The examination can evaluate spinal injuries following road traffic accidents, falls, sports injuries, or other forms of trauma.
Post-Surgical Changes
NCCT can help assess bony structures, surgical changes, and spinal alignment during follow-up after dorsal spine procedures.

The radiology team reviews the clinical history, symptoms, previous investigations, and reason for the NCCT Dorsal Spine examination.
The patient is positioned appropriately on the CT table according to the thoracic spine imaging protocol.
Thin-section non-contrast CT images of the dorsal/thoracic spine are acquired using X-rays.
The scan evaluates the thoracic vertebral bodies, posterior elements, facet joints, spinal canal, and surrounding bony structures.
The images are assessed for fractures, bone fragments, vertebral displacement, alignment abnormalities, degenerative bony changes, facet joint abnormalities, bone lesions, and other structural changes.
Traumatic changes, including compression fractures and other vertebral injuries, may be evaluated when clinically indicated.
Multiplanar or three-dimensional reconstructions may be created when required for detailed assessment of complex bony anatomy or fractures.
No intravenous contrast agent is used for a standard NCCT Dorsal Spine examination.
The patient should remain still during image acquisition to reduce motion-related image blurring.
Appropriate radiation-safety measures and a suitable CT protocol are followed to minimise unnecessary radiation exposure.
The acquired images are reviewed and interpreted by a qualified radiologist.
