Book your Colour Doppler – Both Lower Limbs (Arterial & Venous) scan at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, an NABL & NABH-accredited diagnostic centre, which provides advanced laboratory pathology services. It is an ultrasound that provides a complete review of arteries and veins in both legs and also helps to diagnose the disorders that affect blood circulation.
This test is a radiation free which examines the perfect arterial flow of blood and the circulation of veins. It assists that it diagnostic earlier, offering proper management of peripheral vascular diseases. It is performed by our experienced radiologists
About Colour Doppler – Both Lower Limbs (Arterial & Venous)
A Colour Doppler – Both Lower Limbs (Arterial & Venous) scan is a kind of ultrasound examination that assesses the arteries and veins of both legs, blood flow, and identifies where the blockage occurs in the veins (blood clots). Patients who are experiencing leg pain, numbness, wounds that are not healing, and circulatory disorders recommend vascular examination.
What is a Colour Doppler – Both Lower Limbs (Arterial & Venous) Scan?
Colour Doppler ultrasound combines conventional ultrasound imaging with Doppler technology to visualize blood vessels and measure the direction and velocity of blood flow. The arterial study evaluates oxygen-rich blood supply to the legs, while the venous study assesses the return of blood to the heart and checks for clots or venous insufficiency. The procedure is painless, non-invasive, and does not require radiation or contrast injections.
Common Reasons for a Colour Doppler – Both Lower Limbs (Arterial & Venous) Scan
Leg pain while walking or at rest
Swelling of one or both legs
Suspected deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
Evaluation of varicose veins
Cold feet or reduced circulation
Numbness or tingling in the legs
Non-healing foot or leg ulcers
Peripheral arterial disease (PAD)
Follow-up after vascular surgery or angioplasty
Assessment before vascular intervention
Conditions Evaluated
Peripheral arterial disease (PAD)
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
Chronic venous insufficiency
Varicose veins

The patient is asked to lie comfortably on the examination table.
A water-based ultrasound gel is applied over both lower limbs.
A Doppler ultrasound probe is gently moved over the arteries and veins of both legs to evaluate blood flow.
Colour and spectral Doppler imaging are used to assess the direction, speed, and pattern of arterial and venous blood flow in real time.
The examination evaluates arterial narrowing (stenosis), arterial blockages (occlusion), deep vein thrombosis (DVT), venous reflux, varicose veins, venous valve function, and other vascular abnormalities.
Blood flow measurements are recorded at different levels of both lower limbs for a comprehensive arterial and venous assessment.
Additional measurements or imaging may be performed when clinically indicated.
The procedure is painless, non-invasive, and does not involve radiation or contrast injection.
The examination usually takes approximately 30–45 minutes, depending on the clinical indication and complexity of the study.
