About USG Obstetric Level II / Anomaly Scan
An Ultrasound examination of the mother's abdomen and pelvis during the 18th-22nd week of pregnancy is called a USG Obstetric Level II / Anomaly Scan. Through a careful "sculptural" examination, it can determine whether there are any developmental defects in the organs, the limbs, the spine, the brain, the heart, the face, the kidneys, or other parts of the baby's body.
At Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, we utilize state-of-the-art ultrasound technology to provide precise fetal evaluation and to monitor fetal growth, amniotic fluid volume, the placenta's position, and the cervical length.
What is a USG Obstetric Level II / Anomaly Scan?
A Level II or Anomaly Scan is a special type of pregnancy ultrasound that will look in detail at the anatomy of the baby. This test examines the baby for structural defects and to make sure his/her development is normal, not routine tests that are performed on pregnancies.
The scan also examines the placenta, umbilical cord, amniotic fluid, and mother's reproductive organs to check the general health of the pregnancy.
Common Reasons for a USG Obstetric Level II / Anomaly Scan
Routine detailed fetal anomaly screening
Assessment of fetal growth and development
Detection of congenital abnormalities
Evaluation of fetal organs and body structures
Assessment of placenta and umbilical cord
Measurement of amniotic fluid volume
Monitoring high-risk pregnancies
Follow-up of abnormal findings from earlier pregnancy scans
Structures Evaluated During the Scan
Fetal Brain and Skull
Assesses the development of the brain, skull, and central nervous system.
Fetal Face
Observes mouth, nose, eyes, and face for any abnormalities, e.g., cleft lip.
Fetal Heart
Assesses both the 4 cardiac chambers and outflow tracts and major blood vessels.
Spine
Examines the spine for straightness and looks for neural tube closure defects like spina bifida.
Abdomen and Internal Organs
Evaluates the stomach, liver, kidneys, bladder, intestines, and abdominal wall.
Limbs and Bones
Evaluates developing arms, legs, hands, and feet.
Placenta and Amniotic Fluid
Assesses location of placenta, umbilical cord attachment, and quantity of amniotic fluid around baby.
