Carry your doctor's prescription and any previous ultrasound, CT scan, MRI, blood test, or medical reports related to your condition.
Fast for 4–6 hours before the examination unless your doctor advises otherwise. You may drink small amounts of plain water if permitted.
Drink 4–6 glasses of water about one hour before the scan and do not urinate, so that your bladder remains comfortably full for proper evaluation.
Continue taking your regular medications unless your doctor instructs otherwise.
Wear loose and comfortable clothing to allow easy access to the abdomen.
Inform your doctor or sonologist if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant.
If you have diabetes or any medical condition that may affect fasting, inform the imaging center before your appointment.
Arrive at the imaging center at least 20–30 minutes before your scheduled appointment.

The sonologist will review your medical history, symptoms, and previous imaging reports before beginning the examination.
You will be asked to lie comfortably on the examination table with your abdomen exposed.
A warm, water-based ultrasound gel will be applied to your abdomen to improve sound wave transmission.
The sonologist will gently move the ultrasound transducer over different areas of your abdomen to examine the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, pancreas, spleen, both kidneys, urinary bladder, and other abdominal structures.
You may be asked to hold your breath briefly or change your position during the scan to obtain clearer images of certain organs.
The sonologist will capture multiple images and measurements for diagnostic evaluation.
The examination is painless, non-invasive, and uses no ionizing radiation.
The scan usually takes 20–30 minutes, depending on the organs being evaluated and the clinical indication.
After the examination, you can eat, drink, and resume your normal daily activities unless your doctor advises otherwise.
