Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy is an NABL & NABH Accredited Diagnostic Centre that offers the latest and most sophisticated radiology services, along with diagnostic imaging services that include Colour Doppler Tongue Ultrasound. Colour Doppler Tongue is a specially designed ultrasound test to quantify blood flow measurements in the tongue and to evaluate certain blood abnormalities of the tongue and soft tissues. Can be given to help diagnose blood circulation issues in a suspected vascular lesion, tongue swelling, abnormal lumps or any other signs or symptoms that require a tongue blood flow examination. It combines ultrasound imaging and Doppler technology to give information on the structure and vascularity of tissues, for additional clinical evaluations when indicated.
Blood vessels in the tongue provide a good supply to the muscle tissue and other tissues of the tongue. Based on ultrasound technology, Colour Doppler Tongue enables the examination of the available parts of the tongue and blood flow of selected blood vessels. It may be valuable when a doctor suspects a problem with the blood supply to a lesion on the tongue and/or for additional information if necessary. The examination may be administered to judge examination of selected abnormalities within its site, appearance and vascularity. This also assists in differentiating a lesion with intensely internal blood flow (or vascularity) from one with very little internal vascularity. However, nothing can be concluded about the nature of all the lesions on the tongue based on Doppler findings alone, and additional evaluation may be necessary based on the clinical findings.
Colour Doppler Tongue is a combined ultrasound technique with Doppler ultrasonography evaluation of the blood flow in readily accessible parts of the tongue. High-frequency sound waves create images of the area being studied, and Doppler technology reveals the flow of blood in some blood vessels. This is a test that might be recommended if a suspected vascular malformation, haemangioma, or other blood-vessel-related abnormality is present. The technique of examination to be employed and the amount will vary, depending on the site and depth of the lesion. Some abnormalities may necessitate further investigation from an ENT specialist, oral and maxillofacial specialist, or other treating physician, due to the complexity of the tongue.
Vascular malformations are an abnormal growth of blood vessels, or their placement. Colour Doppler can be helpful in measuring the flow through a measurable lesion and give a clue as to its vascularity. Additional imaging might be needed to determine the size of a lesion.
A haemangioma or other vascular lesion can manifest itself as a lump or coloured area of the tongue. Ultrasound with colour Doppler can be useful to determine if there is blood flow within the lesion and the direction of the blood flow. If necessary, additional investigation is required for the final diagnosis.
A scan using ultrasound may help check certain areas of the tongue that have a palpable mass and the surrounding soft tissues. Information from Doppler imaging about the vascularity can help your doctor's care team to make additional decisions on your examination. For some lesions, it is impossible to evaluate them fully with outside ultrasound.
Colour Doppler can reveal the flow patterns in vessels in the field of view. This may be useful in determining vascular characteristics and to determine if any further evaluation of the vascular system or imaging studies are warranted.
Ultrasound can provide additional details about any of the soft tissue changes that occur in the tongue in some situations depending on the location and clinical indication. However, not all tongue tumours are suitable for immediate submission, and sometimes the specialist may prefer to undertake a biopsy for diagnosis.
Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy is engaged in diagnostic imaging with particular emphasis on the patient-oriented approach, the right procedure, and accurate reporting. We want our examination history to be comfortable, and our examination findings to be results that tie up with the patient's symptoms, clinical examination, and relevant medical history. The imaging technique is going to rely on the location, size, and nature of the abnormality in the tongue. Previous imaging, or special recommendations, may be useful in planning the imaging and in comparison with previous imaging.
If your doctor prescribes Colour Doppler Tongue, please consult Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy to ensure that the product is available and suitable to examine for your condition. Take your doctor's prescription, the results of previous scans, and some medical records.
