USG GUIDED BIOPSY CONSUMABLES

₹4000

USG Guided Biopsy Consumables at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy are a special group of medical products needed for a biopsy procedure performed with the use of ultrasound guidance to aid the collection and removal of tissue to be examined in a laboratory. The number of procedure-specific consumables used in the diagnostic centre having NABL & NABH accreditation is at least as required for a procedure for its clinical need, and use of advanced services (Radiology & Diagnostic imaging) is as per its requirements.

About USG Guided Biopsy Consumables

USG Guided Biopsy Consumables are all the sterile accessories and consumables required to perform a biopsy with ultrasound guidance. These materials help the radiologist direct the biopsy needle to the area to be sampled, retrieve the tissue samples, and ensure that sterile conditions are maintained during the biopsy. The consumables needed can be different as per biopsy site, use of different needles, characteristics of the lesions, and the procedure technique used.

What Are USG Guided Biopsy Consumables?

USG Guided Biopsy Consumables are medical supplies that are used during a biopsy process that is conducted under ultrasonic guidance. In the ultrasound pictures, the radiologist can locate the area to be biopsied and guide the needle into the area for pathological diagnosis. These consumables might be biopsy needles, sterile gloves, drapes, skin preparation materials, syringes, local anaesthetic material (where appropriate), specimen collecting containers, procedure-specific accessories, dressings, etc. The type of supplies varies according to the area to be biopsied, technique used, and the clinical situation.

Common Reasons for USG Guided Biopsy

  • Unexplained lumps or masses: Biopsy may be recommended to obtain tissue samples from selected abnormal lumps or masses for histopathological examination.
  • Thyroid lesions: When a core biopsy is not suitable, for the removal of tissue from a certain thyroid problem.
  • Liver lesion: To obtain tissue of liver lesions (focal and diffuse).
  • Probing of soft tissue masses: To assess soft-tissue masses that are palpable.
  • Abnormalities identified on previous imaging: Biopsy may be advised to obtain a tissue diagnosis when imaging findings require further evaluation.

Conditions Evaluated

Benign and Malignant Lesions

An ultrasound scan can also be used during the procedure to take tissue samples (biopsy) for the pathologist to examine to identify the type of abnormal tissue and to check whether the tissue is benign or malignant.

Breast Abnormalities

In order to recover tissue so that the tissue can be used for histopathological examination, selected lumps and suspicious lesions in the breast may be indicated for ultrasound-guided biopsy.

Thyroid and Neck Lesions

It can be indicated if a core tissue sample is clinically indicated, to obtain samples from areas of any abnormalities of the thyroid and/or neck.

Lymph Node Abnormalities

Biopsy may help to examine an enlarged or suspicious lymph node, so that the tissue can be examined under a pathologist's microscope.

Liver and Abdominal Lesions

Using ultrasound guidance, it can aid in taking tissue from the liver or any abnormal part of the abdomen that is identified and located during an ultrasound.

Soft-Tissue Masses

It can also be performed to create tissue for evaluation of superficial or deeper soft tissue lesions, which can be diagnosed.

Who May Require USG Guided Biopsy Consumables?

These consumables are required for patients who have been prescribed by an Oncologist or treating physician to have an ultrasound-guided biopsy procedure and proceed with that biopsy. May be recommended if a clinical examination or imaging test reveals an abnormality that must have a sample taken for diagnosis or planning treatment. Depending on the location of the biopsy, the needle biopsy design, technique and/or clinical requirement, the type and quantity of consumables vary.
